Census Bureau opens jobs line for the 2010 census

SHEPHERD -- The Census Bureau has begun the process of recruiting hundreds of workers in the area to ensure a complete and accurate count in 2010. They are hiring for full time, part time and spare time positions. You may qualify if: 1).You are a US Citizen or, 2.)a legal permanent resident with appropriate work visa, and you possess a bilingual skill for which there are no qualifi ed citizens. 3.) You are at least 18 yrs old. 4.) Have a valid Social Security Number. 5.) Take a written test of basic skills. 6.) Have a valid Driver’s License (for fi eld jobs only.) 7) Pass a background check & Drug test 8) Commit to four days of training. You will be paid for training days at you regular hourly rate. Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with Selective Service Training will be held either during daytime hours or during evening and weekend hours. The Shepherd Chamber of Commerce has sample practice tests. And there will be training sessions available at the Shepherd Community Center (936-628-3890) Call the Census job line to schedule an appointment to take the test and apply for a job. 866-861-2010.
