COLDSPRING – The distribution of Hurricane Ike Disaster Recovery Community Development Block Grant contract will be the topic of discussion Thursday, March 3, during a special meeting of the San Jacinto County Commissioners’ Court. During the meeting, commissioners are expected to discuss the distribution of the county’s portion of an approximate $9 million grant in disaster recovery funds. “We’re proposing that a majority of the funds be spent on a building that can be used for a county emergency shelter and community center,” said San Jacinto County Judge Fritz Faulkner. Currently the county has no emergency shelter that the American Red Cross can facilitate in the event of a hurricane or other disaster. “As a community center the facility could be used by organizations such as the Area Go Texan Committee that has to go out-of-town to hold fundraisers because there’s no suitable place here,” Faulkner said. The special workshop meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ courtroom, is open to the public. |
