San Jacinto News- Times
COLDSPRING -- The death a former inmate, who was found dead in his San Jacinto County jail cell April 8, 2011, has been ruled an “accidental overdose of hydrocodone,” according to a brief press release issued Monday by San Jacinto County Sheriff James Walters. Jerry Lawson, 47, was found in his cell about 8:43 a.m. last month unresponsive by a jailer and nurse. At that time, it was reported that his death appeared to be of natural causes. “I requested a full investigation by the Texas Rangers and detectives of the sheriff’s offi ce,” Walters said in an April 8 press release. He also said that an autopsy had been ordered by Justice of the Peace Beth Sewell. Monday Walters said, “I have received the report back from the medical examiner’s offi ce. The cause of death shows to be an accidental overdose of hydrocodone.” Walters said an investigation is underway to determine how Lawson obtained the prescription medications. |
