Raid nets 8 for organized criminal activity

COLDSPRING – Eight have been arrested on a variety of charges and more arrests are expected in a crack down of organized criminal activity by the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Response Team (SRT). SRT deputies conducted a search and arrest raid at a residence on Jayhawker Road in San Jacinto County on the morning of May 5, resulting in arrests of the eight who are from Liberty and Montgomery counties. “Methamphetamine, stolen property, drug paraphernalia, a fi rearm and large sums of cash were recovered from the residence,” according to San Jacinto County Sheriff James Walters. Arrested on scene were Steven Wortman, 34, of Cleveland charged with possession of a controlled substance; Vance Wortman, 41, of Cleveland charged with possession of a controlled substance, child endangerment and theft of property; Dacy Riggs, 43, of Conroe arrested for a warrant out of Liberty County; Leah Steiner, 19, of Cleveland charged with endangering a child; Paula Steiner, 37, of Cleveland charged with engaging in organized criminal activity; Brenda Garcia, 48, of Cleveland charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon; Jennifer Pratt, 28, of Splendora charged with possession of a controlled substance; and Clayton Bagwell, 53,of Cleveland arrested for a warrant out of Montgomery County. “The investigation is ongoing and more arrests and charges are pending,” Walters said.
