Chamber joins program to market rural Texas

COLDSRING – The Coldspring/ San Jacinto County Chamber of Commerce is a new member of the GO TEXAN Rural Community Program, a Texas Department of Agriculture initiative to market rural Texas. The GO Texan Rural Community Program is a free, member based program providing resources and expertise to rural communities, businesses and organizations committed to the economic strength of rural Texas. Certifi ed members have access to ongoing reimbursable grants to help promote local events that encourage tourism as well as to special, one-time grant programs to assist in other community development efforts. “The reimbursed funds the chamber receives from the GO TEXAN grant will have been used to help promote Christmas on the Square this year,” said Coldspring/San Jacinto County Chamber of Commerce Offi ce Manager Jackie Compton. “Christmas on the Square is the oldest chamber sponsored special event and we want this year to be bigger and better than ever,” Compton said. During the Nov. 6 board of directors meeting, directors planned the 2009 events calendar for the Coldspring/ San Jacinto County Chamber of Commerce. On April 18, a children’s festival is planned, along with a 5K Cancer Survivors Run. On Oct. 17-18, the annual Wolf Creek Car, Truck and Bike Show is scheduled. On Nov. 14, the 3rd Annual Arts and Antiques Festival, along with a gumbo cook-off will be hosted and on Dec.12, 2009, the Annual Christmas on the Square will take place.
