COHS celebrates homecoming this week

COLDSPRING – Coldspring- Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School District kicked off its annual homecoming celebration Tuesday evening with a bonfi re. Sam Houston Electric Co-op (photo page 6 of this edition) helped Coldspring-Oakhurst High School FFA members crown the Trojan pyre with a rendition of the Shepherd High School fi eld house on top of the bonfi re brush. The bonfi re was manned by agriculture education teachers and students. The Coldspring Volunteer Fire Department was on hand in case of an emergency. Other homecoming activities include the second annual Tailgating Event. Proceeds from space fees benefi t the COHS Spirit Account. Each commercial space is comprised of four individual parking spaces for $40. Family tailgaters can reserve a parking space and a grassy area for $15. In addition to public events, COHS cheerleader sponsor Tracy Barbay said cheerleaders will be working within the school to boost spirit among students. Barbay said cheerleaders have chosen a theme for each day including “Make the Pirates see Double”, where students dress as twins, and “Beat ‘em and Boot ‘em”, where all students wear their favorite pair of boots. Students are also encouraged to wear black on Friday for the game time theme: “Blackout the Pirates.” Coldspring-Oakhurst High School Principal Bill Chapman said, “We invite all community members to come out and join the student body and staff form homecoming activities. The COHS band, cheerleaders, drill team, football players, coaches and teachers will all participate. We would love to see a lot of community members there as well.”The homecoming celebration schedule is as follows: Thursday, October 2, at Trojan Field: 5 p.m., Lincoln Junior High Seventh Grade vs. Shepherd Middle School Pirates; 7 p.m. LJH Eighth Grade vs. SMS Pirates. In Shepherd: 5 p.m. COHS Freshmen Trojans vs. Shepherd High School Freshmen Pirates; 7 p.m. COHS Junior Varsity Trojans vs. SHS JV Pirates.
