Two more homes approved by local habitat organization
San Jacinto News- Times - October 2008
SHEPHERD – San Jacinto County Habitat for Humanity has chosen two Shepherd families to be the recipients of the next two homes it will construct. Blanche Pollard and Larry and Virginia Scott met with local Habitat volunteers Monday to sign paper work for their new homes. Construction on the homes will begin as soon as each family makes an initial $250 down payment and completes 10 hours of work in securing their homes, including attending three workshops. “We will sell the house to each at the cost of building it with no interest to the homeowner,” said habitat volunteer Jerry Strouse. Both families own the property in Shepherd where the homes will be constructed. They will pay a small monthly payment for a 25 to 30 year mortgage. “Habitat doesn’t add anything to the cost of the house and building materials are purchased at discount from area businesses,” Strouse said. Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit organization, has built more than 250,000 houses around the world. San Jacinto County Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of the national organization.
