Shepherd homecoming planned |

SHEPHERD – San Jacinto County Sheriff James Walters is scheduled to be the grand marshal of the 2009 annual Shepherd Homecoming parade. Walters said he is looking forward to seeing everyone and reminiscing old times. “I remember when I was in high school in 1964 and former San Jacinto County Sheriff Lewis Woodruff was in offi ce. He had been called to the school for some problem and he left such an impression from that time on my dream was to be sheriff and now I am,” Walters said. The parade is one of many homecoming activities planned that will start Tuesday of homecoming week. Friday night’s homecoming game and crowning of the homecoming Queen will be held Oct. 2.
Other activities include a Tuesday night bonfire, a Wednesday night SMEA Community- wide church service, a Thursday night SMS Homecoming activities at Shepherd High School Pirate Stadium with the junior varsity game at Coldspring and Friday night’s Shepherd Pirate game with their arch rival the Coldspring Trojans at Pirate Stadium. A reception will start at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria on Friday night. Saturday morning, Oct. 3, a 10 a.m. parade will start events off at First Baptist Church. The parade will end at Shepherd Middle School where a luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. (adults $8 and children 12 and under $4). At 12:30 a business meeting and cake auction will be held, followed by visitation from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. |
