County fair gearing up

COLDSPRING – The kickoff dance for the San Jacinto County Fair and Rodeo is scheduled for Sept. 10, at the San Jacinto County Fair Grounds. The event is one of many planned by directors, members and volunteers of the San Jacinto County Fair Association for this year’s annual event which will be held Sept. 23 through Oct. 1, according to Monica Shrader, secretary. “We’ve made some upgrades to the rodeo facilities that we feel will be a great addition and we look forward to making this year’s county fair the best ever,” Shrader said. Highlighting the kick-off dance on Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. is country music singer Landon Dodd. Adult tickets are $10 each and $6 for ages six through 13 years of age. If you would like to enter a team in the barbecue cook-off, which will be held Sept. 23-24, contact David Smith at 281- 622-6900. A fee of $400 per team will be charged with a limit of 20 teams. If you are interested in a commercial exhibit space, a portable concession stand location or placing a bid on the two big white stands please contact Tully Wilson at 281-659-5584. If you plan to rent a camper spot during the fair please contact Doug Lilley at 713-594- 7074 before Sept. 15. Rental spots will be $100. “We have several advertising opportunities to offer this year ranging from vinyl banners to signs and chute gate signs with prices ranging from $50 to $350.
