Job fair planned

 

SHEPHERD – The Shepherd Economic Development Corporation will host a job fair on Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. "To date about 15 area businesses have confirmed their attendance during the event which is expected to attract more than 250 area residents seeking job placements," said Shepherd Economic Development Corporation Public Relations officer Earl Brown. Confirming attendance at the 2013 job fair are LCJ Company, a Shepherd management company, Office of the Inspector General, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Workforce Solutions from Livingston and Humble, Performance Truck of Cleveland, Palais Royal of Cleveland, El Burrito of Cleveland, U.S. Army, Texas Home Health of Cleveland, Shepherd Chamber of Commerce and Windham School District, according to Brown. Brown said he expects many more businesses to confirm attendance before the job fair begins on Saturday, Feb. 23. "We are trying to get representatives from technical and trade schools to attend also," Brown said. "There is no charge to businesses or the public to attend," Brown said, adding, "You don't have to be a San Jacinto County resident to attend. Residents in surrounding counties are also welcome." Brown said those seeking a job should bring copies of their resume and be prepared to fill out applications. "The Shepherd EDC is committed to helping Shepherd be a great area to live and work," Brown said. Shepherd EDC is funded through a one-half cent sales tax through the City of Shepherd.
