Sen. Nichols is guest speaker at DETCOG's Christmas luncheon
JASPER – The Board of Directors of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) will hold their annual Christmas Luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 19. The annual repast will be held at St. Michaels Catholic Church on Highway 190 West of Jasper starting at noon. The special guest speaker for the event will be Texas State Senator Robert Nichols. The program will also include the presentation of service awards for five, 10, 15 and 25 years followed by the Employee of the Year Award presentation. The employee of the year recognition began 16 years ago as a way for the DETCOG staff to honor one of their own for truly outstanding service during the year. The award is intended for someone who has put forth extra effort to do a good job and constantly goes above and beyond the call of duty – a true "team player." Welcoming members and guest to Jasper County will be Jasper County Judge Mark Allen; Jasper Mayor Mike Lout; Councilman Alton Scott; Jasper County Commissioners Roy Parker, Charles Shofner, Vance Moss and Willie Stark along with Evadale School Superintendent Gary Fairchild, Jasper County Minority Representative and former Jasper Mayor R. C. Horn. DETCOG President and Angelina County Judge Wes Suiter extends an invitation to the luncheon to all interested parties. Anyone needing ticket information concerning the meeting may contact Cynthia Trowbridge at the Deep East Texas Council of Governments office in Jasper at (409) 384-5704.
