Threatening text message gets student arrested
COLDSPRING – A 17-yearold Coldspring-Oakhurst High School student was arrested last Thursday and charged with criminal mischief, following a "threatening" text message sent to his girlfriend. According to Coldspring- Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School Police Chief R. Joseph, the student threatened bodily harm to someone at school by text message on Thursday, Feb. 21. Joseph was notified immediately and the student was arrested, according to a press release sent out by the school district on Friday. "The incident is still under investigation. No one else was ever threatened or in danger. School officials were on top of the situation and there was no cause for alarm," the press release states. A letter from Superintendent Dr. LaTonya Goffney to parents was sent Friday saying, "Ensuring a safe and effective learning environment for students is always a top priority at COCISD. We commend campus officials, Police Chief Joseph and the district police officers for their diligence in maintaining security on the campuses."
