COLDSPRING -- April 27, Habitat for Humanity San Jacinto County will celebrate its 11th birthday. A party, with a catered meal, will be held at Jones Hall, 125 FM 1514 in Coldspring. The public is invited to join in and help make it a gala event. The program will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at a cost of $30 for a single person or $50 per couple. Tickets are available at The Bank of San Jacinto County and local Habitat Office, 31 Butler Street. "Habitat for Humanity San Jacinto County received their affiliation with Habitat International in 2002. Since that time we are completing our 6th family home and are responsible for working in San Jacinto County only. Our organization was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. To be sure that our Birthday Celebration is one to be remembered Mary Gordon Spence from Austin has been invited to be our guest speaker and humorist," said San Jacinto County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Charles Strouse. "Birthday parties should be full of surprises and fun times," said Spence. Mary Gordon (that's her first name) is well-known as an Austin public radio personality, speaker, commentator, and writer who finds magic in everyday life. She'll share many of those magic moments. A master of diversity, Mary Gordon has lived in Latin America, taught students from kindergarten to college, directed statewide environmental programs, written Texas history materials, drafted legislation, and worked for a former president. She is a master storyteller, and she helps many nonprofit groups tell their stories as well.
