Juneteenth celebration set June 15
COLDSPRING – Juneteenth will be celebrated in Coldspring Saturday, June 15. The African-American tradition will begin at 9 a.m. with an Emancipation Program on the western side of the San Jacinto County Courthouse. At 10 a.m. the annual Juneteenth parade is scheduled to begin at the Old Jones High School Campus to the San Jacinto County Fairgrounds. Immediately after the parade, everyone will go to Lincoln Junior High School for the Juneteenth Program, barbecue lunch and other activities. Anyone interested in participating in the parade is asked to meet at the Jones Campus by 8:30 a.m. to line up for the parade. There is no fee or cost for participating in the parade. Juneteenth is sponsored each year by The Friends of Hopewell, Inc., and all proceeds raised will go toward completing the replica of the old Hopewell Church Building which will once again become the community landmark as it serves as the Hopewell Center of San Jacinto County.
