Educational exhibits needed for county fair

 

COLDSPRING -- The 2013 San Jacinto County Fair and Rodeo is scheduled for Sept. 20 – 29 at the San Jacinto County Fair Grounds in Coldspring. The San Jacinto County 4-H is now in charge of the Educational Exhibits at the fair. If you or your child would like to enter an exhibit for the fair you must be enrolled as a 4-H member or an FFA member to do so. You can call the San Jacinto County AgriLife Extension Office at 936-628-6407 for more information. Following is a schedule for educational entries in the annual fair: Monday, September 23, 2013: 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. - Turn in entry applications (All Categories). All Nonperishable items (projects) will be turned in at this time, and the committee will assign the exhibitor interview time. Thursday, September26, 2013: 10:00 a.m. - Individual exhibitor interviews will begin (7 minutes per interview). Exhibitors should plan on arriving 15 minutes before their assigned interview time. - Project Portfolio should accompany the exhibitor to their interview. Friday, September 27, 2013: 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. – Perishable items turned in. 9:00 a.m. – Judging of Projects Saturday, September 28, 2013: Buckle presentation before sale that coincides with Ag Mechanics presentation 4 total projects sold to include the Best of Show in each division. The Overall Best of Show will be selected from those 4 division winners. Sunday, September 29, 2013: 7:00 – 9:30 a.m. - Release of Projects. General Information and Judging Entry fee: $20.00 per entry Exhibitors: 4-H, FFA and Junior Exhibitors. Projects entered in the Educational Exhibits Competitive Division will be judged based on a points system which is as follows: Project Portfolio: 20 pts. Interview: 30 pts. Actual Project: 50 pts. Project Portfolio This should be an accounting of the detail involved in planning, preparation and construction of your project. Items that a Project Portfolio should include are (In this Order): I. Title Page: Includes Exhibitor Name, Club or Chapter and Project Entered II. Table of Contents III. Ideas Section: This would focus on the reason for selecting this project. IV. Price Analysis: Breakdown of Individual Costs and Totals. V. Steps and Instructions VI. Pictures: This section would include photographs that show the exhibitor in their project experiences. (Maximum of 10 photos) (Maximum Photo Size: 4x6 prints) (Include Captions) VII. Outcome: This section should focus on the questions: - What have you learned as a result of this project? - Did this project turn out differently than you expected? - What were the challenges that you experienced in this project?
