Erroneous reports concerning former reserve deputy clarified

COLDSPRING — San Jacinto County Chief Deputy Joe Schultea, Jr., issued a press release last week stating, "It is being reported, inaccurately, by Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia to the Houston area news companies that an arrest during their prostitution sting in Harris County included a reserve deputy from the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office. "Steven Spoon was released by the former administration of this department approximately two years ago, however, that fact was never reported to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. This individual has never been employed by Sheriff Greg Capers. Sheriff Capers has been attempting to gain information regarding this individual from Harris County as to why he has identified himself as one of our deputies and is not getting the cooperation that is required. Sheriff Capers has placed this investigation with his detective bureau to determine if additional charges stemming from Impersonation are justified or required. "Sheriff Capers wishes to keep the public informed on all all issues concerning the integrity of his employees, and had this been a factual situation regarding an employee of the department an informational release would have been made to our press contacts." Any questions or concerns should be directed to the Public Information Officer (Chief Deputy Joe M. Schultea, Jr.) for the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office at 936-653- 4367.
