Work on new sidewalks in downtown Coldspring begins Feb. 9
A pre-construction meeting was held Monday at the Livingston Area Office that marks the beginning of a project in the City of Coldspring, located in San Jacinto County. Trevway, Inc., of Katy, contractor for the $646,827 construction project, will set barricades beginning next week with work scheduled to begin on Feb. 9 in downtown Coldspring to construct curb ramps in various locations that will upgrade sidewalks to safety standards and meet ADA accessibility requirements. The sidewalks are located in front of downtown businesses. Work will be completed in front of two businesses at a time before moving to other locations. Estimated completion date for the project is May 2017, weather permitting. TxDOT officials held public meetings on Aug. 6 and Oct. 30, 2015 in Coldspring to gather public input on the construction project and presented updated maps and information at a Nov. 2, 2015 city council meeting. From those discussions, TxDOT proposed the city sidewalks be upgraded at the following downtown locations: the northeast intersection of SH 150 and Cedar Avenue; the southeast and southwest corners of SH 150 and FM 1514; the northeast corner of FM 1514 and Church Street; the west side of SH 150 near the intersection of SH 150 and Cedar Avenue; and the north side of FM 1514 from Church Street to Butler Street. Motorists are urged to be alert to nearby equipment during work hours. Reduce speed in the downtown area, as workers are present near the roadway. Obey all traffic control devices and reduce speed. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present. All work schedules are subject to change in inclement weather.
