Water line break causes havoc in Coldspring

COLDSPRING – At least one-half of San Jacinto Special Utility District water customers were without water for about nine hours and some businesses forced to close last Wednesday when a major six inch-line broke in Coldspring. The line break occurred around noon, resulting in part of San Jacinto SUD water system having low or no water pressure, according to San Jacinto SUD employee Amanda Villa. The break was located on Hwy. 150 at the red light in town, across from Peoples State Bank. Water service was returned around 9 p.m. to all of the utility district's 1,200 customers and boil water notices were posted around town the following day. According to Title 30 Texas Administrative Code Subsection 290.46(q) 1., the San Jacinto SUD is required to issue a boil water notice if a daily newspaper does not and continuously post the notice in conspicuous places within the area served by the public water system until the water samples are reported from the lab clear and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) tells them they can rescind the notice. "The samples were collected on July 17, before noon and reported from the lab around 6 a.m. July 18 as being clear," according to news release issued by the utility district.
