Tailgate party highlights COHS Homecoming

COLDSPRING -- A bon fire blazed the trail for Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School District’s Homecoming celebration Tuesday night.
The homecoming celebration starts with the first Homecoming Tailgating Event scheduled Friday, Nov. 2 on the COHS parking lot beginning at 4 p.m. Tailgate space fees range from $10 for families to $50 for commercial businesses and/or community organizations.
Games begin Thursday, Nov. 1 on Trojan Field at 5 p.m. with Lincoln Junior High Seventh Grade clashes with Cleveland Middle School Indians. At 7 p.m. Lincoln Junior High Eighth Grade meets on the field with Cleveland Middle School Indians. In Cleveland at 5 p.m. the COHS Freshmen Trojans will face-off with Cleveland High School Indians. At 7 p.m. COHS Junior Varsity Trojans play the Cleveland High School Indians.
Activities on Friday, Nov. 2 begin at 4 p.m. with the Tailgating Event. Meet the COHS Teacher Night is scheduled from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., followed by a Community Pep Rally at 6:30 p.m.
COHS Varsity Trojans will square-off with Cleveland High School Indians at 7:30 on Trojan Field. Homecoming activities, featuring the crowning of the 2007 COHS Homecoming Queen will begin at halftime.
“We hope everyone will come out to one or all of these events,” said Dr. Lynn Cummins, COCISD superintendent. “Our schools are one of the most common connections among us. Whether you come as a taxpayer, a former student or a parent, we all come to support the students.”
Cummins said Malisa Hargrove, COHS principal, organized the activities with the help of high school staff members.
Regarding the Tailgating Event, Hargrove reports, proceeds from space fees benefit the COHS Spirit Account.
Eighteen commercial spaces are available. Each commercial space is comprised of four individual parking spaces for $40. Two slightly larger commercial tailgate spaces are also available. These two spaces are comprised of five individual parking spaces for $50.
There are 64 spaces for family tailgaters, comprised of one parking space and a grassy area for $10 each.
