Man arrested on sexual assault charges; three arrested for copper theft
San Jacinto Newstimes - November 2007

COLDSPRING – San Jacinto County resident Magnus James Brock, 21, was arrested Friday for the aggravated sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl. Brock, a registered sex offender in Montgomery County and formerly Liberty County, is in the San Jacinto County Jail with bond set at $800,000, according to San Jacinto County Sheriff Lacy Rogers.
Rogers said Brock was reportedly staying at the home of a friend in Coldspring when the rape occurred. He said a family member of the victim reported the incident.
Brock was taken into custody when he was spotted driving around Trails End Subdivision.
Children’s Safe Harbor of Conroe conducted a forensic interview on the victim prior to Brock’s arrest.
“There is a new 25-year mandatory minimum punishment for the aggravated sexual assault of victims 14 years old and younger,” Rogers said.

Copper seized
Three stolen street signs led to the arrest of three Cedar Valley residents charged on five felony counts of theft last Wednesday, according to San Jacinto County Sheriff Lacy Rogers.
Rogers said Deputy Lt. Jones obtained a search warrant for the Cedar Valley property when three street signs, believed to have been stolen, were spotted on a travel trailer.
“Several people were there when the search warrant was executed, including Waylon Hicks, 31, Jerry Oyer and April Baker,” Rogers said. “The street signs were taken from Foxes Run, Silver Fox and Smith Street and were posted on the exterior of the trailer in plain sight.”
During the investigation, officers found 628 pounds of copper that had recently been reported stolen from an oil company in Polk County and from Sam Houston Electric in Coldspring, according to Rogers.
Hicks, Oyer and Baker were each charged on five felony counts of theft. They remain in the Polk County Jail on $100,000 bond for each count, Rogers said.
