Coldspring decorating for Christmas on the Square
San Jacinto News Times - November 2007
COLDSPRING – It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas as residents, merchants and the San Jacinto County Courthouse come alive with lights, garland, tinsel and all the decorations that make the season in anticipation of the 25th annual Christmas on the Square.
Hosted by the Coldspring Chamber of Commerce, the event will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 on the square and at Old Town Coldspring and the historic Old Jail Museum. Food, craft and antique vendors will circle the courthouse square with their wares, entertainment will be scheduled around town, and a lighted night time parade will conclude the day.
“A Silver Christmas,” is the theme for this year’s Christmas parade, which will be leaving from the San Jacinto County Fair Grounds around 6 p.m.
Parade entries may complete a form before the event through the chamber office or may complete the form at the fair grounds the evening of Dec. 8. All parade entries must be at the fair grounds no later than 5 p.m. or earlier to be a part of the annual event.
Judging of the parade will be done at the fair grounds this year. The set-up for the floats will be the same as last year and there will be a designated director at the fair grounds to show each float or vehicle where to go.
“It is important that everyone entering the parade take extra care to keep all people on the floats – inside the actual floats,” said Coldspring Chamber of Commerce Manager Sandy Carman.
“The parade has gotten so large, as well as the floats have increased in size, that it is far too dangerous to have children running around when they enter the downtown area. There is no throwing of candy, etc., from the float please,” Carman said.
“If you want to be in the parade, call the chamber off at 936-653-2184 and leave a message as to who the group is that is coming so we may have an approximate count of floats,” Carman said.
