Christmas home tour begins Sunday, Dec. 2
San Jacinto News Times - November 2007
STEPHENS CREEK -- The Floyd and Charline Smith home will be featured on the 2007 Women’s League Christmas Tour.
Built in 1972, the house was purchased by the Smiths in 1984 and enjoyed as a weekend home for 15 years. In 1999 they became full-time residents of the Stephens Creek community. Within a very short period of time they felt a need to expand the living space and add storage. They added a master bedroom and bath as well as enclosing the front deck as a family room. The surrounding property was also purchased, expanding the lawn to two acres with a beautiful pond.
“We hope that the experience of visiting our home will take you back in time, to your childhood and all of your wonderful Christmas memories,” said Charline Smith. “You will find many themes in our holiday decorations – bears, angels, red hats and other festive symbols.”
The Michael and Elva Rayne house in Stephens Creek, built in 2004, will also be one of the stops in the 2007 tour. The home was built, to a great degree, by the Raynes themselves – they were the general contractors. It took 10 months to build and was completed with the help of family members and friends. In addition to the usual contractor responsibilities, Michael, who has experience working construction, had to reconstruct the porch columns when the framers chose not to complete the job.
“We feel very blessed to have this home,” said Elva Rayne. “We enjoy living so close to the lake and truly love living in Stephens Creek.”
The 2007 San Jacinto County Women’s League Christmas Tour will be on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 1 to 5 p.m. The hospitality center will be at the Bud and Arlene Daugherty home at 151 Pine Shadow Street in the Stephens Creek area. Prior to the day of the tour, tickets ($6 each) may be purchased from any women’s league member or by calling Judy Brindley at 653-8997.
