Shepherd man killed

In an unrelated accident, Shepherd resident Jeffery Todd Hubert, 32, was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center-Livingston after a head-on collision early last Tuesday evening.
Hubert was northbound on U.S. Hwy. 59 in the outside lane just south of Livingston at about 6:30 p.m. DPS reports show Hubert lost control of his vehicle, crossed the inside lane, entered the median and struck a southbound 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Amanda Benavides of Houston./
The occupants of Benavides’ vehicle were not injured.
Traffic began to back up quickly due to travelers driving south for an extended holiday. Sheriff’s deputies closed northbound U.S. 59 to allow rescue vehicles to use those lands as a contra-flow route to reach the accident.
A crew of more than a dozen firefighters extricated Hubert from the vehicle. An air ambulance crew arrived on the scene but ruled Hubert was not stable enough for air transport.
