Filing begins for city, school board elections

COLDSPRING – Filing begins Feb. 9 in local city and school board elections.

Three city elections and two school board elections in San Jacinto County will be held Saturday, May 10.

In the City of Coldspring, a mayor and three council positions are open for election. Those positions are currently held by Mayor Pat Eversole; Position 3 Councilman Jay Phillips who was appointed Monday to fill the unexpired term of former councilman Tom Aden who resigned; Position 4 Councilman Dale Smith and Position 5 Councilman Greg Vore.

In the City of Shepherd, a mayor and two council positions will be decided. Those positions are currently held by Mayor Pat Thomas and councilmen at-large Joe Cronin and Mike Flynn Jr.
There is no word from the City of Point Blank about the positions that will be up for election there.

In the Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees election three positions are up for election. Those are Position 5 held by Janice Wyatt; Position 6 held by David Swanson and Position 7 held by Fred Taylor.

Shepherd Independent School District has two positions open for election – Position 4 held by David Smith and Position 5 held by Daniel Brown.

The first day to file for a place on the ballot is Feb. 9 and the last day to file is March 10.

The last day to register to vote in the city and school board elections is April 10. Early voting begins April 28 and ends May 6.

To file as a candidate in a city election, contact the city hall in the city you wish to file. To file as a candidate in a school board election, contact the school administration office.
