Locals striving to prevent child abuse
San Jacinto Newstimes - April 2008
COLDSPRING – Most of us will never forget the angelic face of Baby Grace and for members of the San Jacinto County Child Protective Services Advisory Board (CPS), Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month is about Baby Grace and the other 222 Texas children who died in 2007 as a result of abuse.
“The San Jacinto County CPS advisory group’s awareness project has been a success,” said Jeanne Walters, president of the group. Activities included the wearing of blue ribbons, shirts and ties; the releasing of 223 blue balloons from the county courthouse on April 2; the tying of 223 bows on the “Tree of Lights” on the courthouse square; the display of 223 white crosses at the water offi ce on Hwy. 190 in Point Blank and the continuation of the “Go Blue” project in April.
“There is no excuse for child abuse,” Walter said. She encourages everyone to continue wearing blue throughout the remainder of April.
