THS bomb threat among indictments

GROVETON – A 17-year-old Trinity High School student was among those indicted recently by a Trinity County grand jury.
Rachel Lynn Rawls was formally charged with making a false report at a public school, which is a state jail felony.
The incident occurred on Jan. 27 when a note was found in a girl’s restroom at the school. According to the indictment, the note read, “It’s A BomB It go off at 12:00.”
The bomb threat was the fifth made at the high school during the current school year. Students have been taken into custody following each threat, including some as young as 16.
The grand jury indictment is one of the steps that must be taken in order to bring a suspect to trial. It is the formal charge which put a defendant on notice as to charges they will face.
Other indictments returned by the grant jury included:
• Patrick Morris of Trinity was indicted twice on separate theft charges. The first alleges that on Dec. 21, 2008, that he stole a 16-foot aluminum boat and boat trailer while the other accuses him of taking a 1999 Johnson 15 horsepower boat motor on March 4, 2008.
• Jason Clowers of Colmesneil was indicted on charges of burglary of a habitation and aggravated assault in connection with two incidents. The assault charge stems from a Nov. 18, 2008 incident in which a woman was injured when she was struck with a fist. The second alleges that on Feb. 22, Clowers broke into a residence with the intent to assault the same woman.
• Roger Daniel Bunton of Huntington was indicted on a possession of controlled substance charge. He is accused of possession less than one gram of cocaine on Dec. 27, 2008.
• Juanita Dee Prevatte of Trinity was indicted on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone. The indictment alleges that on Nov. 25, 2008, she was in possession of less than one gram of cocaine within 1,000 feet of Lansberry Elementary School in Trinity.
• Willis Granier Jr. was indicted on a felony driving while intoxicated charge. The indictment charges that Granier was arrested on a DWI charge in Trinity County on Jan. 31. According to the indictment, the matter was elevated to a felony because Granier has twice been convicted in Jefferson Parrish, La., on charged related to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
• James Alfred Coleman of Trinity was indicated on a felony driving while intoxicated complaint. Coleman was arrested on Jan. 24 on the DWI complaint and the indictment alleges he was twice previously convicted on driving while intoxicated charges in Harris and Trinity counties.
