Woods leads Tiger team during district track meet

GROVETON – Capturing two first place individual medals and a third place in a team event, Shambrail Woods helped lead the Trinity High School girls’ track team to a fourth place district finish. The District 21-2A track meet was held Friday in Groveton and included both boys and girls events. The THS girls finished behind the district winning Centerville squad. Second went to Buffalo and third to New Waverly. Finishing up the list were fifth place Corrigan-Camden and sixth place Groveton High School. The THS boys finished in sixth place during the meet behind district champion New Waverly and runner-up Corrigan-Camden. Third place went to Groveton followed by Centerville and Onalaska. The top three finishers in each of the events will now advance to the regional track meet. During last week’s district meet, Woods brought home Trinity’s only two first place medals. In the 440-yard dash, she won with a time of 59.87 seconds while in the 220-yard dash, she captured first with a time of 26.65 seconds. Woods also received a third place medal in the 440-yard relay along with teammates Kolleen Rolling, Imanie Tyson and Ryan Mack. Tionna Adams also will advance to the regional meet as the alternate. The relay team placed third with a time of 51.28 seconds. Other THS winners at the meet included: THS GIRLS’ TEAM • 100-meter hurdles: Second Place, Jessica Gonzales; 18.89 seconds. • 100-meter dash: Third place, Ryan Mack; 13.39 seconds. • 1,600-meter relay: Third place, Ryan Mack, Brittany Landry, Alexandra Jenkins, Bailey Currie and (alternates) Jessica Gonzales and Tara Harberson; 4:26.79. • Discus: Third place, Curtisha Woods; 140 feet, 10 inches. • 880-yard run: Fourth place, Brittany Landry; 2:42.66. • Shot put: Fourth place, Ryan Mack; 33-feet, 2.5-inches. Fifth place, Curtisha Woods; 31 feet, 11.5 inches. • 3,200-meter run: Fifth place, Perla Cerda; 15:34.55. • 880-yard relay team: Fifth place; 1:54.78. • High jump: Fifth place, Bailey Currie, 4 feet, 10 inches. Sixth place, Tara Harberson, 4 feet, eight inches. • 300-meter hurdles: Sixth place, Shelby Riddle; 59.63. • Long jump: Sixth place, Kolleen Rolling; 15 feet, five inches. THS BOYS’ TEAM • 44-yard relay: Second place, Mike Byerly, Colt Durdin, Korey Smith, Corey Simmons and (alternate) Paul Asbury; 44.88 seconds. • 880-yard run: Second place, Jose Torres; 2:09.15. • 440-yard dash: Second place, Mike Byerly; 52.80 seconds. • 100-meter dash: Third place, Mike Byerly; 11.56 seconds. • Long jump: Third place, Corey Simmons; 20 feet, four inches. • Shot put: Third place, Jesse Valenta; 44 feet, six inches. • 1,600-meter run: Fifth place, Jose Torres; 5:02.48.
