Shooting sends one to hospital
Trinity Standard -
TRINITY – A 30-year-old Trinity man was in stable condition in a Tyler hospital this week after suffering two gunshot wounds to his upper leg during an incident reported early Sunday morning. Joel Perez was taken by air ambulance to East Texas Medical Center-Tyler, according to Trinity Police Chief Steve Jones. Charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting was Kulwant Gill, 41, of Trinity. Jones said Sgt. Randy Wheeler was dispatched to East Texas Medical Center-Trinity shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday after Perez arrived at the emergency room with two gunshot wounds. The shooting reported occurred near the southwest corner of the intersection of Church and Robb Streets during an argument. Jones said the victim and suspect were believed to have had a confrontation concerning a woman and that the dispute escalated until a weapon was pulled and shots fired. Gill has given police a statement regarding his involvement in the incident and police were waiting to fully interview Perez about the matter. A 32-caliber revolver, believed to have been used during the shooting, has been recovered near the Trinity Food Mart. “I want to thank the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this matter. When Sgt. Wheeler asked for backup, deputies were quickly on the scene to help,” Jones said.
