Trinity Standard -
TRINITY – A 41-year-old Trinity man was free on a $10,000 bond this week after being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon early Sunday. According to Sgt. John Raiford of the Trinity Police Department, Steve Stephens was arrested in connection with an incident reported around 2 a.m. outside of Tiny’s Tavern on Main Street. Raiford said officers Justin Sikes and Travis Bryan were dispatched to the tavern in connection with a reported disturbance and found an injured 37-year-old woman. She reportedly had been punched and struck in the head with a large flashlight and was transported to East Texas Medical Center-Trinity for treatment. While gathering the information on the incident, a witness at the scene spotted the car believed to have been used by the suspect when he left the scene. The officers followed the vehicle and stopped it near the intersection of Railroad and San Jacinto streets. The driver of the car, Lisa Whitley, 45, was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone while the passenger, Stephens, was taken into custody on the felony assault charge. Whitley was released later that day after posting a $6,000 bond.
