Drug charge filed; stripped van found

TRINITY – A drug-related arrest and the recovery of a stolen and stripped minivan were among the cases handled by Trinity police last week. According to Trinity Police Chief Steve Jones, Tracy Gentry, 50, of Trinity was arrested Monday, Dec. 13, on charges of possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evident following an incident at his 10th Street residence. Jones said police were following a top that the suspect was purchasing drugs when they confronted him as he returned home shortly before 11 p.m. Dec. 13. When Officer Randy Wheeler approached the man as he got out of his vehicle, Jones said the suspect took off running while shoving something into his mouth. Jones quickly joined Wheeler and caught the suspect on the porch of the residence where a brief struggle ensued. During the struggle, something fell out of the suspect’s mouth onto the porch. Police subsequently recovered a rock of crack cocaine. The recovery of the crack cocaine lead to the filing of the state jail felony drug possession charge. The more serious tampering complaint – which is a third degree felony – alleges the suspect attempted to destroy the evidence by swallowing it. Stolen minivan recovered In other police activity, a 2008 Dodge Caravan minivan reported stolen in Liberty County was found on the west end of San Jacinto Street on Friday, Dec. 17, shortly before 10 p.m. Jones said the vehicle had been completely stripped of parts, including the doors, motor, transmission and wheels. One suspect was in custody and two others have been implicated, according to Jones. Charges against all three are pending in Liberty County.
