TRINITY – Jeremy Buck of the Boys & Girls Club of Trinity has been named as the first annual Youth of the Year by the Northeast Texas Professional Association of Boys & Girls Clubs (NETPA). Youngsters from throughout the East Texas region attended and competed in the NETPA event held in Marshall. The top three finishers were separated by the slim margin of five points. Adara Land, representing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas (Nacogdoches site) and Jada Hughes from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines (Marshall site) rounded out the top three. “The biggest honor that a club kid can get is the Youth of the Year,” said NETPA President Bryan Partee, “but that program targets the older kids. There are some amazing younger kids out there that not only have great stories about how their club helped them, but could use the public speaking practice that the Junior Youth of the Year provides.” The NETPA plans to make this an annual event to take place early in November. People interested in getting involved or having their kids participating do not have to be a NETPA member, but they do need to participate in a Boys & Girls Club. “For our first year, I was very pleased with the event as a whole,” concluded Partee. The NETPA is a coalition of Boys & Girls Clubs throughout East Texas made up of the following organizations: Boys & Girls Club of Gregg County (Longview); Boys & Girls Club of Rusk County (Henderson), Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas (Nacogdoches); Boys & Girls Club of Trinity (Trinity), Boys & Girls Club of East Texas (Tyler), and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines (Marshall).
