Illegal dumping targeted
Trinity Standard -
TRINITY – Furniture is being dumped along FM 356 in southern Trinity County and a local official is seeking the public’s help in finding the culprits. According to Pct. 1 Constable Woody Wallace, there have been several items dumped along the highway over the past few months. Most recently, a couch showed up in front of the Westwood Shores subdivision on Saturday night. Wallace said witnesses reported seeing a truck pulling a trailer, whose driver appeared to be attempting to dump the couch around the entrance to Trinity Cove, but was “scared off” by the witness. “We are looking for anyone who has any information on who is dumping these items as well as other illegal dumping in the county, Wallace said. “ When we find out who is doing it, they will be arrested and charged with illegal dumping. I have spoken to Bennie Schiro, the assistant district attorney, and he has assured me that he will prosecute these cases to the fullest extent of the law.” Wallace added that illegal dumping is a State Jail Felony that carries a jail sentence of from six months up to two years and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
