Stolen rings recovered
Trinity Standard -
GROVETON – Rings valued at over $1,800 were recovered last week and a warrant for the arrest of a suspect was issued this week by the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department. According to Sheriff Ralph Montemayor, a felony theft warrant charging Joseph G. Hunter of Houston with the theft was issued this week in Groveton. Montemayor said his office was notified on Wednesday, Dec. 15, of the theft of several rings from Frances Casandy Ausmus of Trinity. “Ms. Ausmus stated that some acquaintances had been at her residence prior to the jewelry going missing,” Montemayor said. “The individuals were identified and a check of area pawn shops was conducted by the sheriff’s department.” The sheriff said the seven rings were found in a Walker County pawn shop and have been returned to the owner. He is advising all county residents to take photographs or make a list of serial numbers on all items of value. “This will pay off in the long run in helping recover and claim the items,” he said. He also asked are residents to continue to support the Trinity County Crime Stoppers program, which pays cash rewards for information that leads to the arrest of criminal suspects.
