TRINITY – A $5,000 grant from the BSNF Foundation has been awarded to the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department to purchase radio repeaters for the department’s patrol units. Sheriff Ralph Montemayor announced the award and voiced his appreciation to BNSF Foundation for their support of local law enforcement operations. Incorporated in Texas, the foundation is housed at BNSF Railway’s corporate headquarters in Ft. Worth. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation has been the railway’s main vehicle for charitable giving since 1996 when the Burlington Northern and the Santa Fe railroads merged. The foundation is dedicated to supporting the communities the railway serves as well as the communities in which their employees live, work and volunteer. It is governed by a board of directors composed of BNSF Railway executives and headed by its president, James O. Ambler. Montemayor noted it was sheriff’s jailer Michael Sanders who “went above and beyond the call of duty” to research the grant, gather the needed information and submit the application. “For this dedicated effort, we, the department, sincerely appreciate Mr. Sanders,” the sheriff said. Montemayor said his department will continue to look for these types of grants, donations or sponsors to help improve local law enforcement capabilities.
