Constable switches to Republican Party
Trinity Standard -
GROVETON – Two-term Trinity County Pct. 1 Constable Woody Wallace announced last week he will be switching parties to run in the Republican Primary next March. Wallace’s announcement came at the July 9 Republican Party of Trinity County Executive Committee meeting in Groveton. During the meeting, party Vice Chair Carl Dyer introduced Wallace who explained his reason for deciding to run on the Republican Party ticket. “My values and principles have not changed. I’ve always been a social and fiscal conservative,” he told the committee. “Both as a business owner and a citizen of Trinity County, those principles have always served me well and I will continue to hold true to them,” he added. “However, the political parties on a national level have shifted significantly over time, and I just feel my values and beliefs are aligned more closely with those of the National Republican Party. “Nothing about me or how I do my job as a constable in Trinity County has changed or will change, but I’m glad to be affiliated with the Republican Party of Trinity,” Wallace said. In addition to Wallace’s announcement, the group met and welcomed District 57 State Representative Marva Beck. As a result of redistricting, Beck will be the county’s new state representative. She was on hand for the meeting to visit with party officials and give the group an update on both the activities in the regular session as well as the Texas Legislature’s special session, which recently wrapped up. Beck explained they were pleased with much of what they had accomplished, noting the challenges of the balanced budget and the Voter ID law, among others. Pct 2 Commissioner Rich Chamberlin also made a short presentation, updating the group on commissioner’s court activities. Party Chair Sid Wilson led the meeting and Dyer assisted with the meeting leadership responsibilities. Wilson announced that subsequent party meetings would be held the first Saturday of each month with locations to be announced.
