Runoff races set for July 31
Trinity Standard -

TRINITY – Although no local candidates will be on the ballots, voters are being asked to return to the polls on Tuesday, July 31 for the primary runoff elections. Four state offices will be on the Republican Party’s runoff ballot while the Democratic Party will feature only the runoff in the U.S. Senate race. The winners of the runoff races will advance to the November general election which will pit the Democratic and Republican nominees against one another. The only runoff race for the Democrats is to select the nominee for U.S. Senate. Candidates are Paul Sadler and Grady Yarbrough. In the Republican runoff, races include: • U.S. Senate: David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz. • Railroad Commissioner: Christi Craddick and Warren Chisum. • Railroad Commissioners (Unexpired term): Barry Smitherman and Greg Parker. • Justice Supreme Court Place 4: David Medina and John Devine. Under state law, those who voted during the first primary election must vote in the same party primary as they did during the May ballot. Those who didn’t vote in the first primary may voter in either of the runoff elections. Early voting in both runoff elections will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 23-27 at the Trinity City Hall, Groveton Volunteer Fire Department or the Apple Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Because a low voter turnout is expected locally, officials have combined many of the Trinity County polling places. On July 31, the Democratic Party will have seven voting boxes open while the Republicans will have five,. They include: DEMOCRATIC PARTY Commissioners Precinct 1: Box 1 and 2 will vote at the Groveton High School; Box 3 and 14 will vote at the Trinity Pines Baptist Church. Commissioner Precinct 2: Boxes 11, 17 and 21 will all vote at the Trinity Community Center. Commissioners Precinct 3: Boxes 4, 5 and 19 will vote at Trinity City Hall; Boxes 6 and 12 will vote at the Friday Community Center. Commissioners Precinct 4: Boxes 7, 8 and 15 will vote at the Pennington Community Center; Boxes 9, 10, 16, 18 and 20 will vote at the Centerville School,. REPUBLICAN PARTY Commissioners Precinct 1: Box 1, 2 and 3 will vote at the Chita Baptist Church; Box 14 will vote at the Trinity Pines Baptist Church. Commissioners Precinct 2: Boxes 11, 17 and 21 will all vote at the Rising Sun Cowboy Church. Commissioners Precinct 3: Boxes 4, 5, 6, 12 and 19 will all vote at the Trinity City Hall. Commissioner Precinct 4: Box 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 18 and 20 will all vote at the Apple Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
