County wins award for open finances
Trinity Standard -
GROVETON – Trinity County has been awarded the Gold Leadership Circle Award by the state for its efforts to make its finances open and accessible to all county residents. The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts issued the award to the county for “implementing financial transparency.” “I’m very pleased that the state is recognizing our effort to provide open government and accountability to the citizens of our county,” said Trinity County Judge Mark Evans. He noted that through the county’s website at www.co.trinity.tx.us, citizens may access many of the county’s financial records. Evans gave credit for the award to Robbie Thomas, who maintains the website as well as County Treasurer Joe Bitner-Bartee, County Auditor Sheila Johnson and their staffs. State officials noted that local governments are judged on their success in opening their books to the public, providing clear, consistent pictures of spending, and sharing information in a user-friendly format that allows taxpayers to access more information.
