Years of memories fill 2012 graduation

TRINITY – Memories of friends, events and classes filled Tiger Stadium Friday night as about 50 members of the Trinity High School Class of 2012 received diplomas during the annual commencement program. During the ceremony, class valedictorian Clarissa Berll reminded her fellow graduates their time in school leading up to Friday’s commencement. “Our first day at Trinity High School was filled with tons of questions, but one question dominated: ‘When will our senior year get here?’” she said. During their freshmen year, Bell said they were at the bottom of the high school totem pole but realized when they became sophomores that the end was one year closer. “Sophomore year moved quicker, but we still could not wait for this day. “Last year, as juniors, was weird – a paradox. It was too long and not long enough,” she said. “But this year … This was the year! We were seniors. Finally!” Bell said the past year seemed to fly past with the days “jumbled together like a snow globe – the memories swirling around like snowflakes as we try to grasp onto them.” The valedictorian recalled many of her teachers during the past year and thanked them for helping members of the class achieve success. “Herbert George Wells has said that ‘the past is but the beginning of a beginning and all that is or has been is but the twilight of the dawn.’ As the sun sets on this evening, the twilight of the dawn is beginning. The dawn of our lives. The dawn of our futures. The dawn that brings with it the promise of a new day, and what a glorious day it will be,” she concluded. Salutatorian Karrissa Calhoun also reminded the class of the past, noting that the thought of leaving friends made during high school behind can make them feel sad,. “Thinking of what our future holds has the same effect. There is fear and excitement of all the things yet to come,” she said. Calhoun encouraged her fellow graduates to continue to work hard to overcome life’s challenges and said that with determination, anything can be accomplished. “What happens in our future is up to us. Only we can decide our futures. It will be sad to leave our friends in school behind, but we have to be excited about all the new friends and places in our lives and approach them with an open mind and heart.”
