Trinity Standard - February 2009
TRINITY – Chuck Langston, a graduate and former coach at the University of Oklahoma, was named as the athletic director and head football coach for Trinity High School on Monday night.
During their meeting, the Trinity School Board voted unanimously to accept Superintendent Dr. Bobby Rice’s recommendation that Langston be hired under a two-year contract.
The school district received over 120 applications for the AD job and Rice said a committee of community members helped sort through them and select candidates to be interviewed.
Langston was recommended for the job based on those evaluations, Rice said.
“I’m excited about this opportunity to be the head coach and athletic director here in Trinity,” Langston said Monday night.
“I appreciate the board’s and Dr. Rice’s confidence in me. I know they had a tough decision,” he added.
The new AD added he is looking forward to working with Trinity athletes and would begin meeting with current members of the coaching staff this week.
“I want to build a successful program her for the kids and that is what I will be working to do,” he said.
Langston has served as an assistant coach in Groveton for the past year and currently resides with his family in the Westwood Shores subdivision near Trinity.
He and his wife, Amy, have three sons, Christian, 12; Justice, 9; and Reagan Luke, 2.
The coach grew up in Beaumont and is a 1991 graduate of Westbrook High School there. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he played on the Sooner football team from 1991-95.
From 1995-98 he remained with the Sooner football program, coaching tight ends .
When he left OU, he spent four years at Trinity Valley Community College, including three years as head coach.
For the next five years, he served as the head coach for University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Langston replaces former Trinity AD Rob Davis, who was reassigned by Rice in October. Since that time, Coach Eric Droddy has been serving as the interim AD for the school.
