Trinity Standard -
GROVETON – A Groveton man was free on bond this week after being wounded on the night of March 8 by a Trinity County sheriff’s deputy. Kenneth Joshua Roberts was treated at Lufkin Memorial Hospital for a single gunshot wound following an incident at his residence on West Second Street in Groveton. He underwent surgery last week and has since been released from the hospital. According to Trinity County Sheriff Ralph Montemayor, Roberts has been charged with family violence and criminal mischief but added that other charges are currently pending. The sheriff said the incident occurred when three deputies and one Groveton Police Department officer responded to a family violence report shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8 Upon arrival, they found what they described as a hostage situation involving the suspect’s wife and three children, Montemayor said. Citing an ongoing investigation being conducted by Texas Ranger Steve Rayburn of Conroe, Montemayor declined to release details of the shooting. He did confirm that Deputy Kimberlee Bruner fired her weapon twice, with one bullet striking Roberts. Bruner has served with the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department since August 2008.
