ETMC donates land to hospital district
Trinity Standard -
TRINITY – Land owned by the East Texas Medical Center corporation on the north side of the Trinity hospital has been donated to the Trinity Memorial Hospital District. TMHD Board President Larry King announced Tuesday morning that while the final paperwork still needs to be completed, ETMC’s corporate board in Tyler has approved the gift to the district. As part of the ongoing expansion and improvement work now underway at the hospital, a parking lot was recently constructed on most of the land being donated. King, who helped negotiate the deal with ETMC, said the land given to TMHD extends from the existing hospital north to Pine Valley Drive and estimated it to be between and acre and an acre and a half in size. “This is a pretty good lick for the hospital district,” King said. “It will give us plenty of room for expansion in the future.” ETMC had previously agreed to donate land needed for the new 15-room patient wing now under construction, but instead of simply drawing a property line around the new wing, the corporation agreed to give the entire site to the hospital district. ETMC currently operates the local hospital – ETMC-Trinity – under a long-term lease agreement with TMHD. The hospital district currently owns the hospital and adjoining clinic buildings as well as the land on which they sit.
