Local ad featured on Tonight Show

TRINITY – A joke ad that appeared in the classified section of the April 15 edition of The Trinity Standard was featured Monday night in the “Headlines” comedy segment on NBC’s Tonight Show starting Jay Leno. For several months, Kirk Lorenson of Trinity has been placing joke ads in the classified pages of The Trinity Standard ranging from left-over Easter Eggs for sale to finding a green lizard wearing a purple pimp hat with long peacock feathers. Lorenson has been placing the ads for fun and said he enjoys it when people call him about the jokes. “This is it. I expect a call at any time to go up to New York to write comedy,” Lorenson joked Monday when he came to the newspaper office to tell us about the Tonight Show segment. The Headlines segment appears each Monday night on the Tonight Show when Leno reads strangely worded headlines, odd stories and advertising mistakes that were sent in to him from viewers. Lorenson noted his April 15 ad “went national” when Leno read and showed The Trinity Standard clipping on national television. The ad read: “FREE TO GOOD HOME or not so good home. Spider monkey with an attitude. Alfred prays guitar (mostly at night) and throws knives out of meanness. I’ve been stabbed 3 times. I’ve had enough. 936-594-5604.” Giggling while reading it and breaking out into a laugh when he finished, Leno turned to the audience and said, “When your monkey stabs you three times, that it!”
