4th Annual ‘Golf’ War planned by VFW Post

TRINITY – Area veterans and their friends are set to once again go into battle, this time on the golf course, when the 4th Annual Veterans “Golf” War opens at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 11 at the Lake Estate Golf Club at Trinity Plantation. The event is open to all veterans of all ages who have served in the U.S. military and National Guard – whether or not the service was in a war on foreign soil. This year’s event is also open to friends of veterans 21 years old or older and military service is not required. Entry forms are available on the VFW Post 6899 website at www.vfwpost6899.org or phone 594-9467 or e-mail to email@example.com The cost is $50 per player and includes entry fee, cart fee, ball cap, commemorative bag tag and a barbecue hamburger luncheon following the tournament. Proceeds benefit the V.F.W. scholarship fund. The format is a four-person scramble and players can sign up as a team or as individuals who will be assigned to a team. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place teams, longest drives, closest-to-the-pin on Par 3’s and for the optional Putting Contest and Chipping Contest winners. This year a new golf cart is offered as a hole-in-one prize on the specified hole. Door prizes also will be awarded. Hole sponsorships are also available to area businesses or individuals for $50 per hole. Each year the VFW Post #6899 and its Ladies Auxiliary awards more than $7,000 in scholarships to area students. Tournament proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund.
