Christmas basket requests sought
Trinity Standard - November 2008

TRINITY – Applications for holiday baskets of food and toys will be accepted by the Trinity Ministerial Alliance’s Christmas Basket Program beginning on Thursday, Nov. 13.
Those wishing to apply are asked to go to the Good Samaritan House on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The Good Samaritan House is located just on Ramey Street, just off Elm, three blocks north of the First United Methodist Church.
The deadline for applying is Tuesday, Dec. 2, and the baskets will be distributed on Friday, Dec. 19
The request form contains a place to list the names, ages and school grades of all children in the family as well as the number of adults.
Information on the children is needed so the Christmas Basket Committee can obtain appropriate toys for each child.
In addition to the toys, the basket will contain holiday food items for the family. Included is either a turkey or hen, depending on the size of the family, as well as green beans, flour, sugar, corn meal, English peas, cream corn, yams, cake mix, cranberry sauce, candy and fresh fruit.
Once the applications are processes, those receiving the baskets will be notified of the time they should pickup the food and toys.
Now in its 22nd year, the program began modestly with the distribution of 55 baskets of food and some used toys. Last year, the committee distributed over 400 baskets and over 800 new toys and this year organizers are expecting the number to increase.
The estimated cost of this year’s basket program is $19,000, which is funded entirely through local contributions and fundraisers.
“Your Gift is Appreciated!” is the theme being printed on little white envelopes, which will appear in statements from local banks. Those wishing to donate may use the envelopes to send contributions.
In addition, area residents and businesses may mail contributions to the Christmas Basket Committee, P.O. Box 112, Trinity, Texas 75862.
