‘Celebrate Trinity’ picked as festival theme
Trinity Standard - November 2008
TRINITY – “Celebrate Trinity” will be the theme of this year’s annual Christmas at the Crossroads celebration, which will be hosted Dec. 5-6 by the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce..
The theme was chosen to emphasize that this is a community event.
“This isn’t just the chamber’s party,” said Chamber President Warren Robicheaux. “It’s for all the people of Trinity and we hope everyone will participate.”
While many traditions will remain, there will be some changes this year. Most of the decorations from past years, including Santa’s sleigh and workshop, were destroyed in last summer’s fire at the Morrison warehouse.
Friday, Dec. 5, has been set for decorating the community tree on the grounds at the Old Red School House with the official lighting at 6 p.m. The Trinity Lions Club will serve refreshments.
The chamber is asking everyone to bring an ornament to Old Red to help replace the ones lost in the fire and have a tree the community can be proud of. Ornaments can also be brought to the chamber office at 702 S. Robb between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on weekdays.
Saturday will bring food and craft vendors to the Old Red school yard from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Invitations have been sent to past participants and applications are also available at the chamber office. Booth space is $35 or $25 for non-profit organizations.
There will be musical entertainment throughout the day and Santa will make an appearance so the children can give him their wish lists and have a picture taken with him.
The annual lighted Christmas parade will kick off at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Several local businesses will be leading the parade, literally and figuratively, to show their appreciation of the community that supports them.
Even though Santa won’t be riding in his sleigh, he will be there too. Any business, organization or individual wishing to participate can pick up a free entry form at the chamber office.
The chamber is sponsoring an outdoor decorating contest for all businesses, whether members of the chamber or not. Applications to be included in the judging can be obtained at the chamber office or Romo’s Restaurant. Trophies will be awarded Saturday at Old Red.
More details on “Celebrate Trinity!” will be released in next week’s Trinity Standard. Comments, questions and suggestions are welcome. Contact the Chamber at 594-3856, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Christmas Committee chair Julia McMichael at 936-537-5219.
