Early voters flocking to polls
Trinity Standard -

GROVETON – Almost a quarter of the Trinity County’s registered voters have already cast their ballots in advance of Tuesday’s general election. According to County Clerk Diane McCrory, as of Tuesday morning a total of 2,896 ballots had been received either in person or by mail. That represents 24.6 percent of the 11,750 voters registered in the county. McCrory said a combination of the heated presidential race and the large number of contested local races seems to be creating a turnout of “historic proportions.” “I haven’t seen anything like this since I’ve been county clerk,” she added. The early voting period continues through Friday at the Trinity City Hall and the Groveton Volunteer Fire Department. Voting hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. An early voting location at the Apple Springs Volunteer Fire Department was only open last week. The breakdown of the local early voting total as of Tuesday morning shows that 1,818 people voted in Trinity, 460 in Groveton and 314 in Apple Springs. Of the 374 mail ballots sent out by McCrory, 304 have been returned. On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, polls will be open from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. throughout the county. A complete listing of the poll locations appears on page 1A. This year’s general election ballot includes races ranging from President of the United States down to county precinct constables.
