TRINITY – A call regarding the theft of merchandise from the Dollar General Store Monday afternoon resulted in the arrest of four area residents on public intoxication charges. Additional charges related to the theft were pending additional investigation. Mike Harris, 30, Chris Allen, 39, Roy Proctor, 49, and Jennifer Davis Allen, 39, were all charged with public intoxication. Bonds were pending on Monday afternoon. According to Police Chief Steve Jones, police were called to the store off Highway 19 South at about 1 p.m. Monday regarding the theft. They were told someone was loading items stacked in front of the store into the back of a pickup without paying for the merchandise. When Jones arrived at the store, he spotted one suspect at the scene and was told three others had left on foot headed toward the nearby Brookshire Brothers grocery store. Pct. 2 Constable Mark Cole took Harris into custody at the store and transported him to the city jail while Jones went to the Brookshire Brothers parking area and took the other three into custody. Police found about $340 in merchandise in the back of the suspect's pickup, including a stack of children's wading pools and a number of chairs. "We're trying to sort out who was involved in the theft and who wasn't," Jones said, adding additional charges probably would be filed once the investigation is completed.
