Trinity Standard -
TRINITY — A barbecue cook-off, raffle and silent auction will be held in Trinity Saturday, Aug. 17, to help raise funds for the 356 Volunteer Fire Department's building fund. The cook-off, which is being planned as an annual event, will be held on the Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church parking lot in Trinity. The entry fee for the cook-off is $50 per team with the chefs being given a choice of preparing ribs or brisket. The grand prize winner will be chosen from the best of the two. Teams will set up from 8-10 a.m. and the barbecue will be turned in for judging at 4 p.m. All entries must be cooked on the site. Barbecue will be sold to spectators for $10 per place. In addition to the cook-off, a silent auction will be held and the 356 VFD will raffle off a 270 Savage 10/110 Trophy Hunter XP Rifle with a Nikon scope and walnut stock. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25. The silent auction and raffle winners will be announced at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be used to help the 356 VFW rebuild its fire station in the Carlisle community. The station was destroyed by a fire on July 17, 2011.
