Firefighter injured during woods blaze

TRINITY — Trinity firefighter Scott Womack sustained two cracked ribs Sunday afternoon while battling a grass/woods fire in the Glendale area. According to Trinity Fire Chief Hayne Huffman, the blaze was reported around 4:30 p.m,. Sunday near a rock pit on property owned by Dewayne Allsbrooks. Womack was injured when a tree fell on him. He was transported by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center-Trinity where he was treated and released. Huffman said the fire began as a controlled trash fire at the rock pit. "The wind got to blowing and the fire spread to the grass and moved into the woods," he said. While one barn in the area was threatened by the fire, no structures were damaged. Tires on equipment located at the rock pit were damaged.
