Trinity Standard -

TRINITY — As part of a continuing community involvement program, the Trinity Police Department will host its First Annual Co-Ed Softball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, July 26-27. The event will be held on the city's auxiliary ball field off Stadium Street. Police Chief Steven Jones said tournament is part of a program to allow more positive interaction between the public and their police force. Other events held throughout the year include the annual Community In Unity March Against Crime and Drugs, a golf tournament and a bicycle rally. Jones added they also are looking at the possibility of hosting three-on-three basketball tournaments in the future. "We want to have various activities for different age groups," he said. Registration for the softball tournament is open through July 20 or until all tournament slots are filled. Cost is $100 per team and all teams are guaranteed to play at least two games. The top three teams will be awarded trophies. Under the rules of the tournament, a minimum of 10 players per team are required to be on the field at all times and a minimum of four of the 10 must be female. Also, only blue dot balls will be used. To register or for more information contact Jones or Community Relations Officer Donald "Big Sexy" Givens at (936) 594-2505 or (936) 594-2506
